PRE SELECTION NAVIGATOR

Point to the part of the object you want to select ,then

Tools->options->general->navigator->Display the pre selection navigator after.......seconds.

The spinner sets the amount of the time,in second,which elapses before the pre selection navigator appears after pointing at an object using the 'select command'.The following diagram graphic selection tools features.

Click the up arrow to navigates "in -depth".Click the cicrcle in the centre to validate your selection and exit the preselection navigator.

Select Drag:-
1) To select all those object located entirely inside the trap will be selected.

2) Intersecting Trap:-
Any object intersected by the trap will be selected.

3) Polygonal Trap:-
Drag to define (create the polygon ) around the object to be selected,then double-click to close the polygon.

4) Paint Stroke Selection:-
The Paint Stroke icon lets you select objects by simply drawing a paint stroke across them.Drag to create the paint stroke.

Using the select command you can select any object in your document .Select the select icon to enter selection mode,if it is not already activated.Point to part of the object you want to select.As you point to objects,different parts of the objects are highlighted,in the geometry area ,and the object name is highlighted in the specification tree.

Highlighting will only be active if you checked the option "Preselect in geometry view" (active by default) using the Visuallization tab via the

Tools->Option...........command.

To change pre selected element type highlighting options:

Tools->options->general->visualization->........................................

Cltr-click->to add more object to initial selection.

Cltr-clicking can be done in the geometry area,specification tree or lists in dialog boxes.To deselect ,click anywhere in the background.

"Esc" deselects all selected items.

You can navigate from one workbench to another using Welcome to V5 dialog box,which aapears ,when you start a session or when you click the icon representing the current workbench.

This conatains the icon for the workbenchs belonging to the configuration and/or product you installed.

You can aslo access the bench icons by right-clicking the current workbench icon.

To customize the ist of workbench icons available:

Tools->Customize.....Command.

Navigation assistant

The product structure contains a specification tree.This helps you to navigate in the tree by simply clicking on a branch.Double-click an object in the tree to activate the object-specific workbench.The navigation assistant manages transition between different workbenches.

The navigation assistant will
>create a new workbench document in the cureent product structure.

>activate a different wokbench in the product structure.

>create a new document for a different workbench.

The specification tree keeps track of all the operation that are carried out on the part.The following Figure shows the specification tree that appears when you start a new file under Part design work bench.

STARTING A CATIA SESSION ON WINDOWS.

1) On the windows desktop, double-click the Catia enviroment

2)On the taskbar ,select the Start->Programs->Catia V5 , enviroment shortcut.

3) A new product file,with the default name Product1,will start automatically

4) To close the File>Close from the Menu Bar.
